It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terry Louis Mestan of West Bend, who peacefully set sail on his final voyage at the age of 78.
Born on Oct. 13, 1947 in Chicago, Terry lived a life guided by steady winds of service, adventure, and love for his family. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor and carried the values of duty, resilience, and integrity throughout his life.
Terry cherished time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride in those he loved. Some of his happiest moments were spent cheering from the sidelines as his grandchildren played sports. Whether gathered for holidays, simple dinners, or time at the lake, Terry treasured the time spent together.
When he wasn’t with family, Terry could be found volunteering with Interfaith Caregivers, donating blood, playing tennis or pickle ball, and of course, sailing. His family moved from Chicago to Delavan Lake when he was five, which led to his life-long love and participation in scow sailing. After graduating from Delavan-Darien High School in 1965, he went on to serve in the US Army. He spent two years in Vietnam and upon returning home completed a Bachelors Degree in Business from UW-Eau Claire. Terry and Cindy met in Lake Geneva, married in Wauwatosa, and raised their family in Brookfield. He had a long and successful career with Medline Industries. Beyond his professional life, Terry always remained involved with his community both through sport and service. He played tennis with the Brookfield Tennis Club, was a long-time member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club and Highlander Elite Racquet Club, and coached Girls JV Tennis at Brookfield East High School. He was a member of the American Legion Post 449 in Brookfield and a substitute teacher for the West Allis and Slinger school districts.
Terry is survived by his wife Cindy; children, Kimberly (Lwin) Maung of Northbrook and Bradley (Lauren) Mestan of Brookfield; grandchildren, Grace, Jack, Teddy, Louisa, Louis, and Bobby; his brother Steve (Cathy) Mestan of Milton and sister Carol (Don) DeAre of Omaha. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Steve Mestan. He is loved by many extended family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Though the winds have carried Terry beyond the horizon, his love and spirit will remain with us always.
We will celebrate and honor Terry on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Northbrook Church, 4014 WI-167, Richfield. A visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Service to follow at 11 a.m. A private interment at Washington County Memorial Park will be at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County, 2374A W. Washington Street, West Bend, WI 53095 or at www.paypal.com/paypalme/ifc4seniors
