Glen Edward Ries, 75, of Walworth, passed away on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 at New Day Assisted Living in Elkhorn. He was born in West Chicago on Aug. 15, 1951, the son of Arthur and Thelma (Hall) Ries.
Glen was united in marriage on April 4, 1970, to Miss Marsha Marten-Weeks and they spent the next 56 years happily building a life together. Glen worked for many years as a welder, truck driver, and all-around maintenance man until his retirement.
Glen was a large supporter of education and received the prestigious Friend of Education award. Passionate about community athletics, he was named Wisconsin Athletic Director Association Coach of the Year and was recognized by Walworth Baseball for 25 years of service. He was a longtime coach of youth and high school sports where he served as a mentor and role model for many student athletes; most recently at Big Foot High School as an assistant wrestling coach. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana. He loved outdoor activities; most notably hunting, fishing and golfing.
Glen’s grandchildren were the light of his life, and he deeply enjoyed spending as much time as possible with each of them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Glen is survived by his wife, Marsha Ries of Walworth; his children, Matthew (Nikki) Ries of Beloit, Lucas (Dawn) Ries of Sheboygan Falls, and Jacob (Kimberly) Ries of Walworth; his grandchildren, Andrew, Colin, Zackary, Elliott, Logan, Beau, Ally, and Carter Ries; his siblings, Theodore (Judith) Ries, Danny Ries, Connie (Bill) Frie, and Paula (Wayne) Ross; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Thelma Ries; and his brothers, James Ries and William (Shirley) Ries.
A Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026 at Toynton Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha Street, Walworth.
An additional Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 137 Dewey Avenue, Fontana. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following at Noon.
Memorials in loving memory of Glen may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org in lieu of flowers.
