Margaret Edith Geddes, 91, of Creamery Creek Assisted Living in Viroqua, passed away on Sept. 3, 2026.
Margaret was born in Viroqua, on July 6, 1935, to Herman and Ester (Warren) Springborn. She was employed by Sta-Rite Plastics for over 27 years. She was proud to earn her GED in Burlington.
Margaret loved her family more than life itself. She would do anything to help her children, her brothers, her sisters, and friends. She loved crafts including macrame, pottery, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and especially gardening and flower decorating. She couldn’t resist going to flea markets and yard sales. She enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding them and especially chatting and laughing with them. Margaret loved her church family at Burlington United Methodist Church where she had many friends and worked on many fund raisers for the church. She volunteered for several years at Love Inc. in Burlington, where she started collecting “treasures.” Margaret loved to travel and visited many places with the family, including Branson, Nashville, Cancún and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, Anderson, South Carolina, the Badlands and the Grand Canyon, Michigan Balloon Fest, Zion National Park, boat trips at Lake Meade in Nevada, down the Mississippi River and Lake Geneva, and many trips to visit family in the Viroqua area. One of her most exciting activities was taking a hot air balloon ride. Everybody who knew Margaret loved her for her loving nature, her gracious demeanor, her infectious laughter, her quick wit and her wonderful sense of humor.
Margaret married Donald D. Geddes on Oct. 27, 1953 and was happily married for 54 years.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Karen (Richard) Jacks of Viola and sons, Ricky (Darlene) Geddes of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina and Gregory (Dawn) Geddes of Burlington. She is also survived by siblings, Marv (Alice) Springborn, Eloda Bohland, Harlan Springborn, and Loren (Marlene) Springborn; sisters-in-law, Valerie Springborn and Connie Melvin; grandchildren, Amanda (Kirk) Mueller, Nicole (Chris) Prill, Timothy Jacks (Bianca) and Jessica Bigler (Michael); great grandchildren, Emma and Thomas O’Connell, Madison, and Liam Mueller, and Dylan, Autumn, and Lauren Jacks; special cousin Carol Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Donald D. Geddes; sister, Joyce Sutton; brothers, Roger Springborn and Alan Springborn; brothers-in-law Harry Sutton and Miles Boland; sister-in-law, Margaret Springborn; granddaughter, Jacqueline Geddes; daughters-in-law Susan Geddes and Ann Geddes; nephew Dennis Sutton, and niece Amanda Hitchcock.
Margaret’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Creamery Creek Senior Living staff and the St. Croix Hospice staff for their loving and compassionate care, as well as to Rev. Sandy Conrad for her visits.
A Funeral Service for Margaret was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at New Hope Methodist Church in Red Mound. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Margaret was laid to rest at Walnut Mound Cemetery following the service.
