The bluegills, grouse, and snapping turtles of Southeastern Wisconsin can sleep well tonight. Thomas A. Stang, of Burlington and Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2026, at the age of 77. He was a devoted father, grandfather, educator, brother, and lifelong wisecracker.

A graduate of St. Mary’s High School and Marquette University, Tom went on to dedicate his career to teaching, including many years spent at Hamilton and Messmer High Schools.

Tom was a fan of Marquette basketball, an enthusiastic cribbage player, and a connoisseur of a proper Old Fashioned—with brandy and always sweet. He loved learning, feeding the squirrels and birds, drives through Whitnall Park to spot deer, and playing good-natured pranks on those he cared about most.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Stang; his parents, Charles and Florence; and his brother, Father Charles Stang, S.J.

He is survived by his son, Logan Stang and daughter-in-law, Aoife Roberts; his cherished granddaughter, Saoirse Stang; his brothers, Daniel and John Stang; many wonderful nieces and nephews; countless dear friends; and his faithful pups, Charlie and Frankie.

Visitation will be held at the Max A. Sass and Sons Greenridge Chapel, 4747 S 60th St., Greenfield, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Noon Private interment will take place.
