It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald J. Vitullo on Aug. 4, 2026. He was 89 years old.
Born on Aug. 17, 1936, in Chicago, to Benjamin and Viola (Pasquini) Vitullo, Donald grew up in Chicago with his brother, Robert, and his late sister, Deanna Scotese. He later moved to Cicero after marrying the love of his life, Jeanette Gallo, and as their family grew, they moved to Delavan.
Donald was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, hardworking provider, and lifelong friend. His greatest source of pride was his family and he taught those around him the value of good work ethic, loyalty, humility, and putting family first.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette and sister, Deanna Scotese. He is survived by his four children, Donald (Mary Ann) Vitullo, Christopher (Crystal) Vitullo, Benjamin Vitullo, and Dana (Ali) Albaghdadi; ten grandchildren, Giovanna (Jake) Cournoyer, Marisa Vitullo, Isabella Vitullo, Sabrina Vitullo, Benjamin Vitullo, Ammar Albagdhadi, Mena Albaghdadi, Nicholas Vitullo, Davanie Vitullo, and Marco Vitullo; and two great-grandchildren, Adra Cournoyer and Gia Cournoyer.
Though Donald was a man of many trades and talents, he spent much of his career at Andes Candies following in the footsteps of his father. For many close to him, the very sight of those little green chocolate rectangles will forever be a sweet reminder of him. After leaving his role as General Manager of Andes Candies, Donald worked for Tankcraft for many years before retiring at the age of 70.
One of Donald’s greatest joys was gathering around the dinner table with family. Whether enjoying a glass of wine, a scotch, or even a little Metaxa if his dear friend, the late Jimmy Spirololous was around, he loved telling family stories and keeping traditions alive. His family will forever reflect fondly on his annual “winter walk” through the park which somehow always ended in the icy river, aka. “the crick”, the after dinner card games at the dining room table, the early morning fishing expeditions on Lake Delavan, and the cherished stories of the “old neighborhood,” the often comedic adventures of raising his four children, and the many travels he took around the world with Jeanette as well as his friends over the years.
Donald’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He delighted in their accomplishments, celebrated their milestones and thought they were the best and brightest, never missing an opportunity to tell others how proud he was of them. Some of their favorite memories include breakfasts together at the Family Restaurant or Delbrook Golf Course, where simple mornings became cherished traditions. It was a well-known family secret that he could never decline a breakfast request from one of his grandchildren!
Donald’s Catholic faith was also an important part of his life. Alongside Jeanette, he was a devoted parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church, where they faithfully worshiped together for many years. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Donald has been reunited with Jeanette in Heaven. Memories of his laughter, the familiar cadence of his voice, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his wife and family will live on forever. Rest in peace Donald. You will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Lazarczyk Family Funeral Homes of Delavan, 118 S. 2nd Street, Delavan, on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026 from 5 until 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 714 E Walworth Ave, Delavan, followed by interment in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery.
Donald lost his beloved wife just two years ago to Alzheimer’s disease. He was a generous supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in honor of both Donald and Jeanette Vitullo.
