Virginia “Ginger” Campbell, age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Salem, New Jersey, on Aug. 23, 1938, she was the daughter of Dorothy (nee Finlaw) and Hildreth Noble. Her early life was spent in Pennsville, New Jersey, where she graduated from Penns Grove High School.
On Dec. 11, 1958, Ginger married the love of her life, William Clarence Campbell, in Ridgeway. Following their marriage, they resided in Madison for a short time, then moved to Burlington where they lived at “The Ranch” on Mormon Road for 60 years. In 2021, they returned to Madison.
Ginger was an administrator at Lakeview Terrace and an instructor for UW-Extension. She was a long-time member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, and was always willing to participate in church events, especially if it involved the cookie walk, baking almond cakes, or Cook’s Night Out. Ginger was a loving mother to her daughters and foreign exchange student sons, who still call her Mom. And she went to great lengths to make the holidays special for her grandchildren.
Ginger had many hobbies, including collecting antiques and she had a flair for decorating–especially at Christmas her favorite holiday. Ginger was always willing to play a game, especially Bridge. While Ginger had traveled world-wide, she fancied Branson, Missouri, where she attended many concerts with dear friends. She had fun with her car club gang and she loved entertaining friends and family at her home. She was a social butterfly and had a gift for meeting new people and making new friends. She was a Jersey Girl who always made everyone feel welcome and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Ginger had a big place in her heart for animals especially her Boston Terriers, Minnie and Ole.
Ginger is survived by her loving husband, Bill; daughters Khristy (Joseph) Frieman, Karen (Josep) Tordera, and Kaye (Kirk) Kopplin; grandchildren, Margaret Frieman, Alexis Frieman, Paul Tordera-Campbell, and Campbell Kopplin; and foreign exchange sons, Hardy (Anja) Braun, and Harry Sandell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Walter S. Craig, parents-in-law, Gladys and William L. Campbell, nephew Bob Campbell, brother-in-law, Mark Campbell, and sister-in-law Betty (Campbell) Becker.
A visitation will be held at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28 from 2:00 until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m.
