Paul McCarthy, 92, passed away on July 18, 2026 at Berlin Memorial Hospital with his family by his side after a battle with dementia. Paul was born to Thomas and Eva (Greenheck) McCarthy on Nov. 17, 1933 on a farm in Newberg. He was the youngest of two brothers and seven half-brothers.
The family moved to a farm in Mukwonago while he was a young boy. Paul graduated from Mukwonago High School in 1951 where he was very proud of his state football championship. He went on to attend Marquette University and The Engineering Institute of Chicago. Paul worked as a stone mason for A. Guenther General Contractor where he built many beautiful churches in the Milwaukee area.
Paul met his wife, Shirley (Kainz) through church activities, and they were married on Oct. 1, 1955 at St. James Catholic Church, in Mukwonago. Farming became his passion as he was a successful dairy farmer with his family. In 1972, he moved his farming career to Berlin, where he farmed until his retirement. His woodworking hobby was shared with many family and friends through the years. Paul used his engineering skills to repair and maintain his farm machinery.
During his retirement, Paul and Shirley enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sporting events, school programs, and other activities. They also enjoyed traveling to Florida, Arizona and Colorado to visit family and friends. Recently, they were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage.
Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley, their children, Cindy (Kim) Sheskey, Carrie (Bruce) Broughton, Thomas (Kathy) McCarthy, Tammy (Timothy) Kuczynski and Terese (Rev. Kevin) Klug; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law Marilyn McCarthy and Elizabeth McCarthy, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brown Wilcox Retirement Home, Berlin Memorial Hospital and the ThedaCare Hospice team for their loving care to Paul.

Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 from 9 until 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. officiated by Monsignor James Gunn. Inurnment will take place at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
