Ronald A. Torrey, 77, of Delavan, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at home.

Ron was born on Nov. 27, 1948 in Springfield, Illinois to John and Rita (Mounce) Torrey. He was united in marriage to Sharilyn Stanley on April 27, 1996 in Danville, Illinois. He was the owner operator of Captain Hook Construction in Austin, Texas.

Ron will be remembered as an advocate for human rights and staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, home improvement, watching and competing in track and field, and cheering for Chicago Sports teams. In his younger days, Ron was a weekend warrior in softball, basketball, and golf.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sharilyn; daughter, Chaille (Patrick) Gleason, of Cary, Illinois; son, David Torrey, of Peoria; grandchildren, Torrey, Tabor (Leon), Eamon, Gage (Amber), Macauley (Daril), and Blake; five great grandchildren; twin brother, John (Diane) Torrey of Iowa; sisters, Patricia Torrey of Florida, and Sally Torrey of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. Ron maintained strong bonds with his ex-wife Connie’s (Lamb Torrey Romanus) family and his numerous cousins from Springfield and Decatur, Illinois. He also looked forward to regular zoom meetings and the reunions with classmates from Bergan High School Class of ’66.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Christ Episcopal Church, 503 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
