Thomas J. Hallingstad, 79, of Dover, passed away Monday, March 23, 2026 at Arbor View Assisted Living.
Born in Burlington on Nov. 16, 1946, Tom was the son of Milton and Lanona (nee Frook) Hallingstad. His early life was spent in Burlington, where he graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1965. He graduated from UW Madison in 1970 and in 1971 completed a pharmacy internship at Haupers Drug Store in Union Grove. He served in the US Army from 1971 until 1973 as a pharmacist at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.
On June 16, 1972, at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington, Tom was united in marriage to Susan Wrixton. Following marriage, they lived in Aurora, Colorado for two years before moving back to Burlington.
Tom worked as a pharmacist for Tobin Drugs and Aurora Hospital. He was a member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Faith Chapel and various professional pharmacy organizations. He was an accomplished tennis player and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking with family and motorcycle trips. He enjoyed traveling around the US as well as to Canada, Mexico and Norway with Susan. He loved his family above all else and spent as much time as he could when he retired with his grandkids.
Tom is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Derek (Alma) Hallingstad; grandchildren, Zach Hallingstad, Clark Hallingstad and Eli Hallingstad; and brother, Dennis Hallingstad of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Hallingstad.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Arbor View and Moments Hospice for their care during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnels to Towers.
A memorial service will take place later this spring.
