Jacquelyn Beatrice (nee Wheeler) Langetieg, born Nov. 15, 1938, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, in Verona, after a brief illness, with her son Eric Alver by her side.

Jacquelyn, known to many as Jackie, was a celebrated poet and author. She published six poetry books and a memoir and was deeply involved in the literary community of Madison since 1988. Jackie served on the board of The Writer’s Place and played a role in organizing the city’s first book fair. A dedicated member of several poetry groups, including virtual ones, her work earned her numerous accolades. She received the Jade Ring and Bard’s Chair awards from the Wisconsin Writers Association and was honored with the Poem of the Year Award from the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. Her poetry graced the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets’ yearly calendar for over two decades.

Jackie Wheeler graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1956.

In 1959, Jackie married Robert “Bob” Alver, with whom she had a son, Eric. After their divorce in 1966, she married Fred Langetieg in 1968. Together they welcomed their son Jason in 1969. Jackie retired from Civil Service after 32 years with the State of Wisconsin government, earning multiple awards for excellence during her career.

A pivotal moment in Jackie’s life came in 1970 when she and Fred embraced sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. Their journey brought them lasting friendships and opportunities to support others over the next 55 years.

Jackie was predeceased by her son Jason; parents Beatrice Gall and Jack Wheeler; and dear friend Fay Staley. She is survived by her husband Fred; son Eric Alver; brothers Dennis (Susan) Wheeler and Kurt (Sandy) Wheeler; cousin Terry Konst; and her beloved cats Missy and Joey.
