Eugene “Gene” A. Gallup, 100, of Delavan, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at The Gardens at Ridgestone in Elkhorn.

Gene was born on Aug. 1, 1925 in Delavan to Arthur and Mabel (nee Vierck) Gallup. At age 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served in WWII aboard the USS Pike and USS Swordfish as a battery maintenance man. He would later participate in the Honor Flight in recognition of his service and would also be recognized as the oldest member of the Delavan American Legion Post 95 as a member for 80 years. After his discharge in 1946 he came home and joined his father and the Gallup Electric family business where he was lifelong electrician.

Gene was united in marriage to Marlys Bellman on April 1, 1949 at the Delavan United Methodist Church. Marlys passed away on Jan. 9, 2021. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, dartball, taking long walks to the backwoods, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and took up golfing at the age of 70. Gene truly enjoyed his well-attended 100th birthday party in August 2025 with all his family and friends. Gene was often asked in his later years what the secret was to live a long healthy life and his answer was “you just got to keep moving.”

Gene is survived by his three daughters, Carol Breaker, of Hortonville, Joann (John) Churchill, of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Jane (George) Koehl, of Darien; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Gallup, of Delavan; grandchildren, Kyle (Lisa) Breaker, Brian Breaker, Courtney (Chris) Goetsch, and Katie (JJ Blair) Gallup; great grandchildren, Camryn, Lainey, Kensley, Lawson, Liam, Weston, Jacob, and Brooklyn; sisters, Betty Peacock, of Lake Geneva, and Jeanette Wright, of San Diego, California.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marlys; son, Dean Gallup; brother, Robert Gallup; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gallup, son-in-law, Ken Breaker; brothers-in-law, Brad Wright and John Peacock; and sister-in-law, Lois Lee.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and all of the wonderful caregivers at the Gardens at Ridgestone in Elkhorn.
