David L. Mitchell, 75 of Stanley, died on Sunday, March 22, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1950 in Chippewa Falls to the late Clifford and Helen (Berzinski) Mitchell. Dave grew up north of Stanley and graduated from Stanley-Boyd High. He married Joann (Grohn) Mitchell Ellis. They had two children together and later divorced.

David married Marjorie (Wirth) Mitchell Brown and had one son. David moved to Burlington and the couple raised the three children there. He worked most of his career at Foster Forbes making glass bottles. In his free time he enjoyed ice fishing, camping, ATV riding, and motorcycle riding. Later he owned and operated the tavern Rumors Never End in Burlington for several years until he retired. He traveled a bit in his RV until he settled back in Stanley.

David is survived by his sons, David S. (Erin) Mitchell of Hammond and Jon (Amy) Mitchell of Prairie du Chien; his former wife, Jessie; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Ron (Cindy) Janisewski of Cadott, Mike Mitchell of Burlington, Pat Mitchell of Burlington and Tim Mitchell of Burlington; and sisters, Cheri (Bill) Hoffstatter of Stanley, Kathy Mitchell of the State of Oregon, Karie Mitchell of Bloomer, Kelli (Mitchell) Schindler of Arkansas.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Mitchell and Helen Janisewski; brother Duane; sister Rhonda; his daughter, Wendy Smith; granddaughter, Abbillyne; and brother-in-law Dennis Schindler Jr.

A memorial visitation will take place from 3 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. There will also be a celebration of life July 18 at his son Jon’s tavern Mitchell’s Liquor Box.
