James Emil Klages, 89, of Delavan, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026. Born on Dec. 28, 1936 to Caroline (nee Rumpf) and Emil Klages, Jim was a friend to all and welcomed anyone into his orbit with his gregarious spirit.
Jim served his country in the Marines and was a ComEd lineman for 35 years. He was a commissioner and baseball coach for the Westchester Park District. After his retirement, Jim and his wife Helen enjoyed traveling and volunteering.
Jim was an athlete, lifelong Bears fan, pontoon enthusiast and frequent golfer. He loved to listen to the University of Wisconsin’s marching band (“boom boom”) and was a whiz at doing the Jumble in the Sunday paper.
Jim is survived by his wife Helen; sons Bob (Katy) and Dan (Cathy) Klages; and stepchildren Ron (Cris), Mark, Dan (Debbie), Beth and Janet (Greg). Jim is predeceased by his first wife Beverly (nee Eggar), daughter Patti (Mike) LeDonne, and stepdaughter Mary.
“Papa Jim” is also survived by many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
