John “Jack” Henry Griffing, 83, of Walworth, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2026, in Elkhorn. Born on July 21, 1942, in Elmhurst, Illinois to Franklin W. and Margaret (DeZutel) Griffing, Jack grew up in Fontana and was a proud graduate of the Big Foot High School Class of 1962.

On Oct. 13, 1972, Jack was united in marriage to Evelyn J. Lhotka in Oak Park, Illinois. Together, they shared 50 years of a devoted and happy life until her passing in 2021.

A skilled craftsman, Jack owned and operated his own painting and decorating business for over 40 years. Following his retirement, he continued to stay active by managing building and grounds maintenance for St. Benedict Catholic Church. His commitment to his community was evident through his service as a Cub Scout leader for Pack 234, a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Walworth, and his membership in the Harvard Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.

While Jack was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes of his beautiful soul. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life: tending to his garden, playing cards, and spending quiet summer nights by a fire gazing at the stars. Above all, family was his cornerstone, and the love he radiated was immeasurable. A devout convert to Catholicism as an adult, Jack spent many years in faithful service to God and was undoubtedly welcomed into heaven with open arms.

Jack will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his children, Jane (Thad) Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee, John (Angela) Griffing Jr. of Lodi, Cara (Rick) Pfeiffer of Walworth and Peg Berman of Oregon; his nine grandchildren, Thad Jr., Clare, Peter, and Anna Wilson, Emily, Lillian, and Sarah Griffing, and Jack and Madilyn Berman; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn; and his three brothers, Robert, James, and William Griffing.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at the Toynton Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha Street, Walworth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 137 Dewey Ave., Fontana. Interment will follow at Walworth Cemetery, with a luncheon to be held afterward.
