Richard Francis Wieners, 86, peacefully passed away in his home on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Burlington, Richard was born on July 2, 1939, to parents Fred H. and Mabel C. (nee Ketterhagen) Wieners. He was educated at St. Mary’s Grade School and High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Parish. Richard was an ardent farmer and dedicated his life to the care of his farm. In addition to farming, Richard owned a livestock trucking company for 26 years.

Richard married Kathie (nee Kayser) on Sept. 26, 1959, and enjoyed a happy marriage for 66 years.

Richard led a life marked by generosity, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. His greatest joy in life was derived from time spent with his family and walking his fields. He was a God-loving man who valued the importance of honesty and hard work and had a passion for connecting with others. Richard’s infectious smile and laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Weckerle; parents Fred H. and Mabel C. Wieners; and brothers and sister-in-laws Paul and Joan Wieners and Mark and Betty Wieners.

Richard is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Kathie; children Margaret (Tom) Crawford, Joe (Julie) Wieners and Robert (Jennifer) Wieners; son-in-law Martin Weckerle; brother Ronald (Sue) Wieners; grandchildren, Quinn (Kristen Wangerin) Crawford, Katherine Crawford, Madeleine (Shadeed) Jain, Kaylee (Joe) Wessel, Courtney (Mike) Boucher, Andrew Wieners; great-grandchildren Ellie Wessel and Allison Crawford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Richard’s name to your local 4-H or to the charity of your choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 9 at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, in St. Mary Parish Cemetery.
