James “Jim” L. Vos, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025.

James Lawrence Vos was born on Sept. 25, 1937, to Carroll “Cak” and Violet Vos. He was the oldest of three boys and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, where he proudly earned three varsity letters in football.

After high school, Jim served his country in the United States Navy as an aviation electrician from 1956 to 1960. Upon returning home, he met Mary Mucci, the love of his life.

Together, Jim and Mary built a life grounded in humor, hard work, and deep devotion to one another. Mary remained his steadfast companion throughout his life.

Jim was deeply involved in his community, particularly through coaching. He coached Little League for 12 years and later served as a football and softball coach at St. Mary’s for many years. He took great pride in mentoring young athletes and was known for his dedication, patience, and love of the game.

Later in life, Jim found special joy in being “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; his brothers, Tom (Margie) and Danny (Deborah); his children, Mike, Cris (Jillane), Pat (Celeste), and Dusty (Becky); sister-in-law Annette Lory; brother-in-law Richard (Nancy) Mucci; his grandchildren, Ryan (Liz) Vos, Katie (Dave) Lunetta, Logan (Jasmine) Vos, Maddy Vos, Josh (Gabby) Mueller, Mariah (Max) Ehlen, Makayla Vos, and Evelyn Vos; and his great-grandchildren, Jayden Lunetta, Peyton Lunetta, Jayce Mueller, and Calvin Vos. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Cak and Violet; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Vos; brother-in-law, Jerry; sister-in-law, Jean; and his nephew, Scott Vos.

The family would like to thank the Burlington Police Department, the Burlington Fire Department, the State Patrol, and Jim’s morning coffee friends at Sheila Mae’s Town Fryer.

Jim was a strong advocate for the McHenry Street storm sewer, often “coaching” the city on how to tackle its trickiest floods.

An open house celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Feb. 7, 2026, from 1 until 3:45 p.m. at Integrity Celebration Center, 2789 Browns Lake Dr., Burlington.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to causes close to Jim’s heart.
