Violet A. Neil, 84, of Burlington, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 at her home.
Born in Ashland on Feb. 14, 1941, she was the daughter of Frank and Alma (nee Fjosne) Konieska. Her early life was spent in Ashland, where she graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1958.
On July 18, 1964 at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington, she was united in marriage to Herman “Skip” M. Neil III. Following marriage, they made Burlington their home. Skip preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2019.
Violet worked as a waitress for numerous restaurants in Burlington and retired from Napoli’s Restaurant. She loved making homemade bread and pizza and feeding friends and family. She was an avid reader, reading at least one book a day and as many as three books at a time.
Violet is survived by her children, Jeannine Neil and David (Michelle) Neil; grandchildren, Cassandra, Tori, Sean and Kylie; great-grandson, Casen; her brother Frank; and sisters Lenora and Eunice. She is also survived by Michael C. Smith and Samuel Pittz, who Skip and Violet took under their wing and helped raise. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James, and siblings Elaine, Iona and Laurel.
The family would like to thank her daughter, Jeannine, for taking care of mom for the last couple years. They would also like to thank the staff at Aurora at Home and Aurora Healthcare for their care during this time.
A graveside service to celebrate Violet’s life will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025
