Margaret M. Wortman, 96, passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2025, in Kenosha, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Dec. 18, 1928, in Burlington, Margaret was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her.

A lifelong resident of Burlington, Margaret was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta Frey. She was a proud graduate of St. Alphonsus Grade School, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by faith, education, and service. In her professional life, Margaret was a dedicated employee of Lavelle for an impressive 41 years, where her strong work ethic and warm personality were greatly valued.

Margaret’s life was a testament to love and commitment. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Wortman, with whom she shared countless memories and a beautiful life. Together, they raised a family of strength and compassion, including their loving children, Lynn Wortman, Mary (Dan) Bauman, Julia (Marc) Elvin, Esther Witter, and the late Richard Charles Wortman. Margaret’s legacy continued to flourish through her adoring grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, Kent, Paul, Ross, Christopher, Haley, Nicholas, and the late Sarah Rose Marie. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Katie, Trevor, Caleb, Joel, Coraline, Jack, Kian, Flynn, Alec, Izabella, Xander, Lanigan, Emma, Sydney, Lois, Cecil, Iris, and one on the way, and she cherished the memory of her late great-grandchild Hope.

Margaret is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Loretta Frey; husband Richard; and siblings, Rosemary, Edward, and Rita.

Faith played a central role in Margaret’s life. She was deeply involved in her church, the Immaculate Conception, St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. Her commitment to her faith community was unwavering, and she touched many lives through her service and kindness.

Known for her exceptional culinary skills, Margaret loved to cook and host gatherings for family and friends. Her home was a hub of warmth and laughter, where memories were made around the dinner table. Her legendary lemon meringue pie was a highlight of every family event and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting it.

Margaret’s generous spirit extended beyond her kitchen. She was loving and caring to everyone she met, embodying a spirit of generosity that knew no bounds. Her kindness and compassion left an indelible mark on her community and will be a lasting legacy.

As we bid farewell to Margaret M. Wortman, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved and in the countless lives she touched with her grace and benevolence. Margaret’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be a guiding force for her beloved family and friends.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2025, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community, 305 S. First St., Waterford. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Burlington.
