James G. “Jim” Crowley, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love of his family in the very town where he was born on Nov. 1, 1937.
Jim’s journey began in Burlington, where he attended St. Mary’s Grade School and High School, forming friendships and values that would last a lifetime. After completing his education, he spent over three decades of his life working at Lavelle Industries as a mill operator, where he was known for his strong work ethic and camaraderie with his colleagues. Jim also proudly served in the United States Navy for two years.
Jim was a beloved husband to Margaret “Marge” (nee Kerkhoff) for 66 years; and a devoted father to Jacqueline (Robert) Riggs and Lisa (Michael) Tenhagen, and was predeceased by his daughter Diane Chart. Jim’s role as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immeasurable joy. He was the proud grandpa of Rebecca Schouten, Jessica Schouten, Dylan (Anna) Chart, Austin Chart, Brian (Amanda) Riggs, Alyssa (Michael) DeGroot, Jared Tenhagen, and Sadie (Scott) Brau; and the great grandpa of Hannah, Benjamin, Maren, Wesley, and William, whom he adored. He is further survived by Steven Chart, and other relatives and friends. Jim was the cherished brother of Patricia Elverman, Paul Crowley, and Kathy (Karl) Schultz. His life was enriched by the love and bonds he shared with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Crowley, his brother-in-law Charles Elverman, and his sister-in-law Sandra Crowley. Each family member held a special place in his heart.
Spending time with his family was his biggest passion. He loved watching the Packers, going to his grandkids’ sporting events, gardening and working outside in the yard. He also loved to read and fish with his dear friend Bob Weis and grandkids on the pontoon boat.
His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the treasured moments that shaped a life fully lived. Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his sense of humor and special smile by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will take place at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Noon. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials in Jim’s memory be made to Immaculate Conception-St. Mary Parish, Burlington.
A special thank you to Dr. Twardy and staff, Aurora Medical Center Burlington E.R. and hospital staff, Aurora Home Hospice including Brenda, our main nurse and all the wonderful staff that helped take care of Jim.
