Janet C. Hamric, 91, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 at Pine Brook Pointe.
Born in Fairmont, West Virginia on Dec. 6, 1933, she was the daughter of James and Lois (nee Evans) Crooks. Her early life was spent in Fairmont, where she attended high school. She attended and graduated from West Virginia University at Morgantown with at degree in journalism. On May 27, 1956 in Fairmont, she was united in marriage to John Hamric. Following marriage, they resided in Cincinnati, Ohio before moving to Burlington in 1969. John preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 2016.
Janet worked as a writer for the Burlington Standard Press and wrote and edited the women’s page and a column called Woolgathering for which she won numerous state awards. She was a very active member of Plymouth Congregational UCC, serving as moderator and on several committees. She also worked in public relations at Burlington Memorial Hospital and at one point received Employee of the Year. She modeled, designed and coordinated fashion shows. Following her retirement, she volunteered at Burlington Memorial Hospital.
Janet enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, traveling worldwide and crocheting prayer shawls and was a voracious reader.
Janet is survived by her children, Kim Wessinger and John Hamric. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Stewart Crooks, daughter-in-law Paula Jo Hamric and son-in-law Randy Wessinger.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Brook Pointe, especially Erica, along with the staff at Heartland Hospice.

A memorial service for Janet will be held Dec. 6, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational UCC. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 2 until 3 p.m. at the Church.
