David Roy Hughes, 71, of Burlington, passed away at home on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025 following a short battle with cancer.

David was born in Elgin, Illinois on March 10, 1954 to Harry F. and Margie M. (nee Volk) Hughes. He grew up and was educated in Huntley, Illinois.  On Sept. 30, 1977, David was united in marriage to Lori Ann Goehl. Following marriage they made their home in Raymond, before moving to the Burlington area in 1993. Together they owned and operated Dalor Transist Inc. for almost 50 years.

David was a member of Grace Church in Burlington and the Swift Rider Horse Club. He enjoyed horses, skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, aviation, traveling and time spent on his motorcycle. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and sharing his faith in Jesus with others.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lori; children, Kristina (Joseph) Lindmark, Alison (Michael) Stark and David L. Hughes; grandchildren, James, John, Grace, Aiden, Nolan, Lola, Clara and Landon; siblings, Diane Schirmer and Dale (Anne) Hughes; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margie; an infant twin brother, Donald; his in-laws John and Grace Goehl, and cousin and best friend, Danny Fruin.

Services for David were held Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025 at Grace Church in Burlington. Burial took place on Monday Sept. 29, 2025 in Rochester Cemetery.
